How to get rid of Flying Ants from Your Home

Flying ants can be a complete nuisance. Harmless, but disgusting swarms of these little buggers can completely change an otherwise calm and beautiful summer afternoon.

The following steps are a simple guide to completely getting rid of flying ants from your home. Do note that there is no need to kill flying ants. They have an important place in nature and usually do no actual damage to your home.

Why do I have flying ants in my home?

Flying ants (also called alates or swarmers) leave their nests in large groups (or swarms), mate, and start new colonies. Flying ants breed in the late spring and early summer, so if you're seeing them now, that's probably why.

What are flying ants?

Flying ants are just regular ants that have wings. The ant you see flying around your home is not a separate species of ant, but simply a member of the same species that has reached maturity and is ready to mate.

How do I get rid of flying ants?

The easiest way to get rid of flying ants is to simply remove what's attracting them into your home in the first place. Make sure all food is properly sealed away, clean up any spills, and don't leave any fruit out in the open. Outside, trim any trees or bushes that might be touching your house so the flying ants can't use them as a bridge to get inside.

If you're still seeing flying ants, there are a few other things you can do to get rid of them. One is to use red cedar oil, which you can find at most health food stores. Red cedar oil is a natural pest repellent and the flying ants dislike the scent.

Step One: Locate the source of the flying ants. This is usually an ant colony located somewhere on your property. Once you have found the source, treat the area by spraying red cedar oil.

Step Two: If you cannot find the source of the flying ants, or if step one does not seem to be working, you can try creating a barrier around your home with red cedar oil. To do this, simply spray red cedar oil to a piece of cloth or paper and place it around the perimeter of your home.

Red cedar oil is a great way to keep flying ants away. All you need to do is apply a few drops of the oil to a piece of cedarwood and place it near where the ants are active. The ant's natural aversion to cedar will keep them away from your home. The oil is 100% natural and safe for children and pets - no chemicals here!

Hopefully, these tips help you get rid of those ants and you can relax without any distractions. Thanks for reading and don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions, we are always happy to help!
